The project was realized by Hakija Beculi\u0107, M.Sc.Med.Dr. and M.Sc. Denis Spahi\u0107.<\/p>\n<p>This is a young patient who was left with a large skull defect after a severe craniocerebral injury. The defect practically included the entire right half of the skull and extended to the roof of the eye cavity, which represented a major aesthetic and functional problem. Considering the size of the defect, it was not possible to make an adequate reconstruction using standard neurosurgical methods. It was necessary to create an adequate flap with millimeter precision to close the bone defect. With the help of iDEAlab center staff, based on 3D computer tomography of the head and 3D printing technology, an original mold was made that was used during the operation in order to precisely reconstruct the bone defect. The operation went smoothly, with excellent aesthetic and functional results.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that this is the first time in our country, and beyond, that this method is used to reconstruct a large defect on the head. The complete project was realized in Zenica, which gives it a special significance. We have shown that even in difficult material conditions, with optimal use of all available resources, enviable results can be achieved.
