Effective and efficient training of young people for the active and responsible role of citizens in a democratic society was also discussed by students of the Faculty of Philosophy and language and literature study programs of the University of Zenica. The student forum was led by professor Faruk Kozi\u0107, vice dean for teaching and student affairs, subject teacher of civic education and expert associate of CIVITAS for the University Program of Civic Education. Professor Kozi\u0107 presented the vision and mission of the university's civic education program, and the students spoke about the key challenges and perspectives of student-civic activism, as well as models for improving the effectiveness of teaching content and formal education programs that can and should improve civic knowledge, cognitive and participatory civic skills, civic virtues and commitment of future graduates.<\/p>\n

The CIVITAS coordinator, Professor Amir Hod\u017ei\u0107, spoke about the introduction of civic education school programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Zenica-Doboj Canton, whose Ministry of Education was a pioneer in the process of institutionalizing the content of civic education.<\/p>\n

CIVITAS program manager Ivana Ke\u0161i\u0107 clarified the transition of understanding the status and role of a citizen from ancient, Athenian to modern democracy. In her presentation, she specifically referred to the role of the individual, the bearer of sovereignty in representative, indirect democracy and the understanding of the participatory role of citizens, especially young people, in the processes of creating public policy and other public decision-making processes.<\/p>\n

The CIVITAS educational center would like to thank Professor Kozi\u0107 and the management of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica for ten years of successful partnership and the organization of this student forum. We are especially pleased that the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Memnuna Hasanica, joined us at the beginning of the work and greeted all those present.<\/strong><\/p>\n
