"The prevention and elimination of violence represent universal goals, and within that framework the intention of the University of Zenica is to achieve zero tolerance for all forms of violence," said Larisa Veli\u0107, dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica and chairperson of the UNZE Senate.<\/p>\n
After signing the Cooperation Agreement with the Transcultural Psychosocial Educational Foundation (TPO), the University of Zenica undertook several activities to implement domestic and international standards on gender equality. The main goal of the aforementioned agreement is to work on integrating gender equality into the higher education system.<\/p>\n
- We can state that the problem of "gender-based violence" is particularly pronounced, therefore problematization of this topic is very topical. Of course, these activities of ours, which should be realized in the aforementioned goal, in Bosnia and Herzegovina are additionally difficult due to complex socio-political circumstances and events, which even foreshadow new violence. However, regardless of all the present difficulties, these issues require serious consideration and appropriate action with concrete measures, as well as those of a preventive nature, said Larisa Veli\u0107.<\/p>\n
As part of the "16 days of activism" in the period from November 25 to December 10 - International Human Rights Day, they addressed the consequences of violence with students and colleagues. Violence against women, as well as all other vulnerable categories, represents a fundamental violation of human rights, which has far-reaching consequences both for the victims and for the entire society.<\/p>\n
- All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, and no one should oppress them in any way by their actions. However, the fact is that this often happens, and the time of the pandemic has led to women falling back into their old roles. Women could not rely on society to solve their problems, therefore they take care of children when kindergartens or schools are closed due to the pandemic, and their working hours are not adapted to the new changes. During the pandemic, violence in families around the world increased (physical, psychological, sexual, emotional,...), especially violence against women and children. Social distance and longer stay in the family circle due to mandatory isolation, quarantine or socio-economic difficulties such as job loss favored the increase in violence. Violence is an interdisciplinary problem that concerns all of us, whether the victims are children, women or men! Society must act synergistically against violence and provide the necessary support to vulnerable people. Violence must not be a private matter, said Veli\u0107.<\/p>\n
