A ceremonial academy was held on the occasion of the twenty years of the University of Zenica
The University of Zenica was formed on October 18, 2000 by the Decision of the Assembly of Zenica-Doboj Canton. In twenty years, the University of Zenica has become a modern and respectable institution that functions as an integrated university. In the past period, the University of Zenica confirmed its position through two significant external evaluations and became the first public university in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to receive accreditation.
Today's ceremony was organized to mark the twentieth anniversary of the University of Zenica, and two honorary doctorates, awards to employees, a certificate of thanks to the company ArcelorMittal, as well as plaques to students for the results achieved in the field of science, research and sports were awarded.
"We are organizing this Formal Academy in somewhat bizarre circumstances considering the epidemiological situation, so we are not with guests and friends of the University of Zenica today. Nevertheless, we use this opportunity to thank those who have woven their careers into the creation and development of our university, as well as to reward the best students and to award honorary doctorates", said Prof. Dr.Sc. Damir Kukić, rector of the University of Zenica.
On behalf of the Government of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Prof. Dr.Sc addressed those present. Spahija Kozlić, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, and pointed out that the Government and relevant ministries will provide unreserved support to the University of Zenica in its further work.
The University of Zenica awards an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) to distinguished scientific and public figures from the country and abroad for exceptional contributions in certain areas of scientific, scientific-teaching, cultural and artistic creativity, as well as for exceptional contributions in spiritual and material development and action in the promotion of peace, tolerance and humanity.
Honorary doctorates of the University of Zenica were awarded to the academician Prof. Dr.Sc. Anta Markotić for an exceptional contribution in the field of scientific creativity and Edin Džananović (Edin Karamazov) for an exceptional contribution in the field of cultural and artistic creativity.
The charter for distinguished work and achievements in teaching and scientific activity for merit and exceptional contribution to the establishment and development of the University of Zenica and the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology, as well as universities in the country and abroad, was awarded this year to Prof. Ph.D. Mirsadi Oruč and Prof. Ph.D. Sulejman Muhamedagić.
In order to encourage scientific research and artistic work, the Rector of the University of Zenica awards the Rector's Award for the best scientific and artistic achievement, which rewards the best student success in the fields of science, research, profession, art and sports.
Rector's Award for 2019/2020. academic year were awarded to:
- Ahmed Mujkanović, student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for scientific and research work
- Maid Ređić, student of the Faculty of Economics, for sports achievements
- Moot Court team of the Faculty of Law for scientific and research work:
Velida Kurtović, Harisa Sadiković, Faris Muratović and Jasmina Sadrija - Melisa Smailović, student at the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology
- Aida Bušatlić, student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for sports achievements
In the musical part of the program, the Fugato ensemble, the University Choir in the video version and Emina Bajtarević performed.
