CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE UNESCO/A1 FOSAN INTERNATIONAL PRIZE FOR THE PROMOTION OF YOUNG SCIENTISTS IN THE FIELDS OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS (STEM)

We would like to inform you that UNESCO has opened a call for nominations for the UNESCO/A1 Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The UNESCO-AI Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) aims to strengthen STEM research, STEM education and international cooperation to address the global challenges addressed by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The award recognizes the achievements of young people who contribute to socio-economic transformation and development at the global level, while at the same time increasing the interest of young people, especially girls and women, in science in order to promote gender equality, scientific literacy and the choice of scientific careers.

Starting in 2022, the prize is awarded every two years to five laureates from UNESCO's five geographical regions (Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America, and Latin America and the Caribbean).

The award is given to candidates who have earned recognition for significant contributions:
– STEM Research including new technologies,
– STEM education, dissemination of research results, as well as creativity and innovation
– International or regional STEM cooperation

Candidates must be under 40 years of age at the time of the application deadline. Nominations are submitted via the online platform https://unescoalfozanprize.org and the deadline for submitting candidacies is April 15, 2025.

All nominations should include a letter of recommendation from the relevant university or competent ministry, in English, stating:
– basic information about the candidate and a description of his/her achievements,
– a description of the candidate's contribution to the goals of the award,
- a summary of the work, publications and other important relevant documents
