PRESS RELEASE OF THE RECTORS' CONFERENCE/RECTOR'S ASSEMBLY OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

In light of the continuous political pressure on universities and the direct attack on the autonomy of higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Rectors' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina expresses its deep concern and strongest condemnation of the increasingly frequent and increasingly brutal attempts at political and administrative subjugation of public universities, and especially of the recent decisions and actions of the Assembly of the Zenica Canton and the Government of the Zenica-Doboj Canton through the adoption of controversial amendments to the Law on Higher Education of the Zenica Canton, the attempt to illegally remove the rector through government representatives on the board of directors, and the illegal government conclusion to stop salaries to employees of the University of Zenica as an instrument of unacceptable political pressure on the Government to remove the rector.
