Today, the implementation of the SMEQA - Strengthening Capacities and Mechanisms for Enhancement of Quality Assurance System in Higher Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina project officially began. The first meeting of the project participants is held at the Zenica Hotel, hosted by the University of Zenica.

Strengthening Capacities and Mechanisms for Enhancement of Quality Assurance System in Higher Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SMEQA-ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE-STRAND-3) is a project financed by the European Commission, whose coordinator is the University of Zenica. The budget of the project is EUR 936,000, and in addition to the University of Zenica, 18 other institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU and one associated partner participate in the project. The goal of the project is to establish mechanisms for improving the quality of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the understanding of different European approaches in the accreditation of study programs. Participants in the project, higher education institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, competent ministries of education, the Agency for the Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Agency for Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions of the RS will work together with partners from Slovenia and Croatia during the three years of the project to develop a study program accreditation model. in Bosnia and Herzegovina, establishing a mechanism of coordination and harmonization of the quality assurance system in higher education, strengthening human capacities in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, improving cooperation between institutions participating in the accreditation process, developing an education plan for experts who carry out the accreditation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc. Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina to develop internal procedures for quality assurance.
