15.03.2017. CIP UNZE: WEBOMETRICS RANKING LIST VISIT IN MADRID

Director of CIP UNZE Prof. Dr. Darko Petković, as part of a study visit to Spain, was a guest of CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) and IPP Institute (Instituto de Politicas y Bienes Publicos - www.ipp.csis.es) where the host Isidro F.Aguillo, Hc.Dr., director of the Cybermetrics lab, presented him with the organization and position of the institute, which is a state institute under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Science. There are more than 100 such institutes throughout Spain and they represent places of systematized scientific-research work, they are closely connected with universities and where doctoral or master's research can be done. The building, which is shared by several other institutes, also houses a large library with more than a million titles.

A special part of this visit was the presentation of the new book by Prof. Petkovića: Ranking of higher education organizations - How to evaluate all three missions of the university? which was written a few years ago and saw its printed edition only at the end of 2016 through the Tempus project IDEA-lab. Dr. Aguillo emphasized the importance of this publication as it is one of the first titles on this topic in Europe, which will help academic staff in the region to better understand and know the ranking system. During the conversation between Dr. Aguillo and Dr. Petković, there was also talk about the development of national ranking systems, which would include visits to HEIs, ranking systems by scientific and teaching areas, problems and shortcomings of current ranking systems, etc. At the end of Prof. Petković's visit to Webometrics, Dr. Aguillo, who is the editor of this ranking list, presented Prof. Petković with his new book on scientometrics.
