A presentation of European research programs Horizon 2020 and ERC (European Research Council) was held for the staff of the University of Zenica in the premises of the indoc center of the Metallurgical Institute "Kemal Kapetanović". The possibilities and methods of applying to the Horizon 2020 program were presented by Dina Masnik-Ćulahović, who acts as the National Contact Person (NCP) for the Framework Programs of the European Union in BiH, and the program of the European Research Council (ERC) was presented by V. Prof. Dr. Samir Lemeš, vice dean for scientific research work of the Polytechnic Faculty.
During the discussion, the attendees pointed out the obstacles faced by researchers from ZDK: the impossibility of using part of the funds intended for researchers due to the restrictions imposed by the bureaucratic interpretation of the treasury operations of the University of Zenica, and the limited possibilities for mobility of researchers. For researchers who would receive funding for research from such programs, or doctoral students at universities outside BiH, no one guarantees the return and retention of their job upon completion of the research, because the current legal solutions are interpreted too rigidly, so that successful researchers are automatically dismissed if the research lasts longer than one year.
