14/17.03.2017. CIP UNZE: VISIT TO THE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF MADRID

The study visit to Madrid by CIP UNZA director Prof. Dr. Darko Petković included, in addition to a visit to the CSIC Institute and the promotion of a book on ranking, several talks and a visit to the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid - www.upm.es). The hosts in the conversations with Prof. Petković were Prof. dr. Francisco Javier Elorza Tenreiro, head of postgraduate programs and acting professor. Ljiljana Medić-Pejić, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Energy (www.lom.upm.es), Erasmus coordinator and head of the Gomez Pardo Foundation at this faculty (www.fundaciongomezpardo.es). At this one of the oldest faculties of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, around 1,800 students study today in the environment of buildings that, with their beauty, are more reminiscent of a museum than a faculty. Within the faculty, there is also the largest mineralogical collection in Spain, the largest collection of paintings and other works of art, and an old mining shaft almost in the center of Madrid. The library has hundreds of thousands of titles, some of which are hundreds of years old, famous scientists such as Albert Einstein, Perrie and Maria Currie and others once worked and researched in the laboratories. Among the most significant data is the fact that two scientists whose elements are in the periodic table worked at this faculty.

In the talks between the host and Prof. Petković, there was talk of cooperation modalities of this university with UNZE and other BH universities, exchange of professors and students, as well as joint applications to EU programs. The target areas of cooperation have been preliminarily agreed upon, and in the following period they will be specified in bilateral protocols.
