Essay writing competition, invitation to students

Every year, in order to create peace, tolerance and bringing people together, UNESCO declares the same years for persons of universal importance as well as famous historical events.

 Did you know that UNESCO on the occasion of "700 anniversary of the death of Yunus Emre" declared 2021 as "Yunus Emre's Year"?

On this occasion, the Yunus Emre Sarajevo Institute announces a competition for the best essay for all students on the topic: "Yunus Emre and tolerance towards other and different" - "Yunus Emre ve Hoşgörü".  

Papers can be written in Turkish and Bosnian, and accordingly 2 categories of competition will be formed;
– Essays written in the Bosnian language
– Essays written in Turkish.

Essays should be sent to the email address: yee.pisanje.eseja@gmail.com in word or pdf format no later than April 21, 2021.

With each paper, it is necessary to send information about the author (name and surname of the student and the faculty he attends).

About Yunus Emre

Yunus Emre, who is the founder of a unique style in the field of Turkish Sufi literature, reintroduced the tradition of Tekian poetry in Anatolia with an original expression. Yunus Emre, in his verses that were nourished by Sufism, dealt with man's relationships with himself, with objects and with God, and he also dealt with topics such as death, birth, commitment to life, divine justice and human love. He expressed the way of thinking and culture of his time in a simple and fluent way in spoken language. Yunus Emre again attracted attention in the 20th century and was seen differently, in terms of the human love he reflects. UNESCO recognized 2021 as the year of Yunus Emre.

The era in which Yunus lived was the era when Anatolian Turkism was destroyed by Mongol invasions and robberies, internal quarrels and conflicts, the weakness of political authority, and in addition, famine and drought. In this environment, he managed to rise thanks to his love for God, good morals and good thoughts.

His poems recorded under the titles "divinity", "breath" or "sermon" are not different literary types. "Divine", "breath" and "speech" are words that Sufi poets utter from truth. He enthusiastically expressed his search for God in every part of his being. Yunus is a dervish who matures and deepens with this feeling and knowledge, enraptured by Ashka, tolerant, and always friendly. Yunus could poeticize his thoughts and beliefs with great simplicity and ease. In addition to Yunus Emre's Divan, there is also a poem Risâletü'n Nushiyye.
