Holocaust Remembrance Day was celebrated at the Law Faculty of the University of Zenica

Starting this year, the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica joins the family of institutions in the world that mark the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Nazi Crimes in the Second World War. It is traditionally celebrated on January 27, the day of the liberation of Auschwitz by the Red Army in 1945, and in most European countries this day is accepted as a day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust. It is important to point out that in 2005 the General Assembly of the United Nations also adopted a Resolution by which January 27 was accepted as the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust Victims. On this occasion, the Faculty of Law organized a round table where, in addition to doctors of law and professors, representatives of the Jewish community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of the Jewish community of Zenica, as well as Mr. Rejhan Prohić, who each contributed to the celebration of this date from their own angle and scientific aspect .

The professors of the Faculty of Law spoke about the terrible crimes committed against the Jews in the Second World War. In the opening presentation, Ph.D. Dževad Drino spoke about the scale of the crimes committed in the Second World War. Ph.D.Sc. Benjamina Londrc referred to the legal foundations that the Nazis used when committing the most terrible crimes and expulsions, and Dr. sc. Enis Omerović presented the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Representatives of the Jewish community, Tina Bagarić from the Haggadah Association, as well as Vanja Udiljak from the Jewish Community of the City of Zenica addressed the gathering.

A special contribution to this gathering was made by Mr. Rejhan Prohić, whose Prohić family is a recipient of the Righteous Among the Nations award. It is the highest recognition that the state of Israel gives to non-Jews who helped save them from the Holocaust. Namely, the Prohić family managed to save the girl, the daughter of their friends, and after 70 years, Mr. Rejhan Prohić got in touch with Nada Kolman, whom the Prohić family saved, and as a sign of gratitude, she requested that all the documentation about her rescue be collected .

Let's also remind that about 6 million Jews perished in the Second World War.
