Realized project "Study on examination of the composition and possibilities of recycling of disposed waste materials at the industrial waste disposal site Rača"
The University of Zenica, with the financial assistance of the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, realized the project "Study on the examination of the composition and possibilities of recycling of disposed waste materials at the Rača industrial waste disposal site".
The "Rača" industrial waste landfill, where waste materials generated in the production facilities of the Ironworks Zenica and ArcelorMittal are primarily deposited, is considered in this study as a potential surface mine of (secondary) raw materials, i.e. a material disposal site that can be used.
During the preparation of the Study, sampling of the deposited material was carried out and chemical analysis was carried out, that is, its physical and chemical properties were examined. The determined composition of the sampled material indicates various types of slag. Slag, produced in metallurgical processes, is used today for various purposes (making embankments, addition to cement, addition to asphalt, etc.), which is stated in the conclusion.
The "Rača" industrial landfill is adjacent to a populated city area, and the land on which it is located has increased in value due to the need for the expansion of the city.
It is to be expected that the results presented in the Study will help in finding a faster solution for rehabilitation and bringing the area of the "Rača" Industrial Landfill to a new use.
The study will be handed over to the City Administration of Zenica.
